HSNY Celebrates 159 Years

The Horological Society of New York (HSNY) hosted its annual gala on March 22, celebrating 159 years while awarding a record-breaking $160,000 in financial aid and raising over $300,000 toward its ongoing mission to advance the art and science of horology.

Four hundred influential figures in the watchmaking industry came together for the black-tie event at New York’s Plaza Hotel, which featured a charity auction presented by Christie’s that raised record-breaking funds for the society’s initiatives, including scholarships for watchmaking students. Of the items auctioned, the largest hammer price was awarded to a Chronomètre Souverain wall clock signed by François-Paul Journe, for $80,000.

In addition to raising funds, HSNY awarded scholarships, with Brian Furi of the Texas Institute of Jewelry Technology in Paris, Texas, and Justin Delano of the Veterans Watchmaker Initiative in Odessa, Del., receiving a symbolic giant check for $160,000.

“I’m beyond proud of the success of the evening,” said Nicholas Manousos, executive director of the Horological Society of New York, in a statement. “The funds raised will have a direct and lasting impact on the future of horology, allowing us to support the brightest minds in the industry and ensure that the art of watchmaking continues to thrive.”
