Lucille Coleman, a New York society figure who died last June at age 93, left a legacy of philanthropy and style that shines as brightly as her impeccable jewelry collection. Christie’s is set to auction this remarkable assemblage during its Magnificent Jewels auction in New York on June 17.

Van Cleef & Arpels Mystery-set flower brooch with diamonds and sapphires, estimate $200,000–$300,000
Coleman’s discerning eye favored the artistry of Van Cleef & Arpels, and the Christie’s sale includes the breathtaking array of the maison’s Mystery-set jewels she had acquired. With this revolutionary technique, pioneered by Van Cleef & Arpels in 1933, gemstones are “invisibly” set to maximize their brilliance.

Coleman’s Mystery-set pieces on the block include a ruby and diamond flower brooch (pictured at top), estimated to fetch between $400,000 and $600,000. Her Van Cleef & Arpels collection also features a stunning diamond ring (above), a sapphire and diamond flower brooch, and ruby and diamond earrings (below).

Proceeds from the auction will benefit New York-Presbyterian hospital and other charities. “Lucille Coleman’s lifelong passion was helping others,” said Marc Porter, Christie’s chairman of the Americas, in a statement. “She was a dedicated supporter of esteemed New York City institutions, including New York-Presbyterian medical center, the provider of healing and strength for so many. It is our privilege to honor and continue her philanthropic legacy.”
