When I was little, probably between the ages of 10 and 12, my father occasionally took me to my grandparents’ house. I wasn’t terribly close with that side of the family, but I still have strong memories of our visits.
Aside from a flourishing backyard that to a child my age felt like something of a secret garden, I remember the candy dish—a hefty crystal thing with a lid to keep its innards fresh. My grandmother would often fill it with gumdrops, the sugared kind that were a feast for the eyes.
The eyes, I would learn, is where the feast should have ended. Once I’d braved a snatch of one of those colorful candies, I quickly came to the conclusion that gumdrops are far too chewy to be enjoyable, and black licorice (the flavor of purple gumdrops) is not for young children.
But I’ll never forget how I adored the way the candies looked, and I am reminded of that anytime I see them—whether the actual candy or a gumdrop-inspired decorative iteration. A new collection from Norwegian brand Crystal Haze is speaking to my inner child with that affinity for (looking at) gumdrops.
Jelly Heart, as Crystal Haze’s line is named, is a fun, colorful assortment of those sweet treats in jewelry form. The charms/pendants, necklaces, and earrings—all in resin and 18k gold-plated brass—offer a wallet-friendly bit of summer style, in vivid colors with names like rouge, cactus, cloud, watermelon, and sunshine orange. There are also scene-stealing necklaces and earrings that feature multiple colors, such as the necklace pictured at top.
For those jewelry consumers looking for some fun on a budget (and even those who aren’t price-conscious but like a good bit of delicious color), Jelly Heart may be the best thing on the menu this summer.
